NFL Week 17 Playoff Scenarios

The Last Gasp

One more week left in the regular season and the dust is finally starting to settle. The AFC's 6 spots are locked except for the "who plays who". The Colts & Bengals wrapped up the remaining 2 wild card spots & the Ravens clinched the AFC North. The NFC has 2 spots open after a mean performance from the surging Seattle Seahawks that clinched a playoff spot for them. The Skins & Cowboys will duke it out for the NFC East Title. Minnesota, Chicago, & surprisingly the New York Giants are all still alive for the final wild card spot with Minnesota having the easiest path.
But enough of the formalities, lets get down to these scenarios.

Pacquaio sparks a Meme frenzy

...ya know....there are only a very select few events that can cause the internet to go completely nuts in a meme/youtube frenzy. For example...how many Street Fighter editions of the "BusDriver Uppercut" did you watch???.......exactly....

The lastest "meme" craze comes from Pacquiao's latest loss to the hands of Juan Marquez. This KO was one that Manny could do nothing about. Counter-hits normally are accidental blows but still....if you get knocked out....hey...you get knocked out.

And so....I decided to have a little fun with this as well..................by collecting the funniest memes i could find and putting them together in a video.....Enjoy!!!!

MEAC Picks Week 10

HAMPTON AT HOWARD 1PM

Hampton....poor, poor Hampton. What is going on at your home by the sea. Whatever it is, it needs to be fixed. Quickly.

My Pick: Howard
BCU AT MORGAN 1PM

BCU & its band are heading north this weekend to contend with a much improved MSU squad. Check this, MSU is better than the standings show. Very close, and i mean very, close losses vs NCCU, Del State, Howard have pretty much closed the door on MSU's title hopes BUT make no mistake. This team is no pushover. Still im taking my pick for MEAC Champs & 2nd best hope for an HBCU winning a playoff game (behind Tenn State).

My Pick: BCU

FAMU AT NCA&T 130PM

....which A&T squad will show up here? And more importantly which A&T QB will start this week. Kindle looked super flat against NSU. The team responded to Quick.....but hey, what do I know...I'm just an undergrad watchin the game.

My Pick: A&T

DSU AT NCCU 2PM

Like I've said before...I dont believe this NCCU team is as good as records indicate. Del State, however....is.

My Pick: DSU

SSU AT NSU 2PM

....My friends from back at home are not gonna like this one. After actually seeing NSU in person, the rumors are true. The loss of 20+ seniors from last years championship team have shown & the spartans have major rebuilding to do. SSU has playmakers on offense, but cant stop anyone from scoring on D. Shouldn't be much of an issue though. NSU cant move the rock.

My Pick: SSU

Giants 29 - Cowboys 24 (6-2)

.......Something about this game...just irks my nerve. Don't get me wrong, I'll take the W anyday. But lets be real clear....the Giants limped to the finish line in the one. You cowboys fans can say we got lucky, won by an inch. *Shrug*... I'll take that too. But here's my understanding, in an NFC East matchup, no lead is safe, and there is no such thing as a guaranteed W. You must work for 4 entire quarters or you will be going home with an L.

This game came literally in 3 phases. During the 1st Quarter The Giants Defense came to the party. Turnovers left and right setup short fields for Eli & the Offense....but there were some issues punching it in. After 5 turnovers in the first half, you need more then 23 points to show for it. A 31 or 35 point effort off of turnovers would've sealed the deal early. But once again, that is just an observation.

After Pierre-Paul's Pick 6, which put the Giants up 23-0 came in the 2nd Quarter, the scoring stopped and the cowboys went to work. Its no secret that the Giants secondary can be picked apart when at times. And let me tell you Romo and Witten picked the right time. Down the stretch of the half, the cowboys added those 10 points and got some momentum. Coming in the 3rd quarter when I found out they received the ball first, I knew that the GMen were in trouble. Two more scores on the board and we're looking at a 24-23 Cowboys lead. However, the best was yet to come.

Everyone knows when the scoreboard reads "Quarter: 4" and your quarterback is Eli Manning, you have little to fear, as this guy turns into a hero. He did everything he could to bring the Giants back, but still could not find the end zone. Tynes two field goals put us up 29-24 and the waiting game began. We all know what happened next. I won't even get into the fingertips thing. It is what it is. Giants Win, ugly, fast start....but still a win.

Being 6-2, I'm far from comfortable right now. Because historically I know what this team does with 6-2 starts. The injuries and difficult schedule begins to eat us alive. In the months of November & December, this team can really surprise you with how bad they can be. I'm just hoping they keep it going forward because like I say every week. The back end of this schedule will not be kind to us. We still have 3 AFC North opponents and the 2 strongest NFC South opponents to deal with. Another date with the Eagles & Redskins and of course.....the packers. Give me 11-5 and I'll be happy because I think that'll be enough to win the NFC East. Honestly I'm hoping to avoid the 1st round bye. Historically, teams get blasted coming off that bye week in the playoffs. I'll pass on that.

Stevie Brown has become the DB the Giants have been looking for. I hope he sticks around for some years because he loves to get himself the ball.

Next Game: Vs Steelers 4:25pm

Hurts.....doesn't it?

My Meac Picks: Week 9

Missed a week but hey, such is the life of an engineering student. Anyways lets get right down to it.

Thursday Night Game:

Delaware St @ Morgan St, ESPNU 7:30

This should be one highly anticipated Thursday matchup as both teams push for the MEAC championship. The bears (3-4, 2-2 MEAC) are essentially facing an elimination game as one more loss would put them out of the race, barring a major meltdown at the top. The 1 point loss at the hands of Howard last weekend in DC should have the bears fired up, but I'm expecting Nick Elko & the hornet to pull this one out.

My Pick: Del State

Saturday Games:

Savannah St @ Hampton:

Both teams are having quite the abysmal season. At one win a piece, its really a slight edge to Hampton due to their offense and because its Homecoming down at the bay. I'm wondering which QB will start for the rest of the season though.

My pick: Hampton

Howard @ SCSU

Homecoming down in Orangeburg this weekend will be a good boost to the boys in garnet & blue. Both teams are coming into this matchup winning big games last weekend. Howard outlasts MSU 21-20, & SCSU takes down FAMU in Tally. SCSU is having its worst season in a long time and the bison are on the rise. Plus LB Keith Pough is such an enforcer for Howard. I'll take Howard in a nail biter.

My pick: Howard

NCCU @ BCU

I could get into all the numbers and stats and such. But I'll simply go with what my eyes have told me. NCCU hasn't had a truly difficult schedule so far. A last second win against Morgan St isn't enough for me. I think BCU brings the "improved" Eagles back to reality.....besides.....the Aggie in me just won't let me do it.

My Pick: BCU

NSU @ NCAT

What is going on in Norfolk? No one expected NSU's season to be like this. But I suppose after losing 20+ seniors and last years offensive coordinator this might have been expected. But thats college sports. Bring in the Aggies, fresh off that 24-0 beatdown at the hands of Del. State. This team is real Jekyl & Hyde. One week they look as good as they should after the year they had last year. The next week they're offensively inept and look as sorry as the aggies of the past. Mike Mayhew, once again, will be the key this week for the game. I think he shows out for his last #GHOE.

My Pick: A&T

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Giants 27 - Redskins 23 (5-2)

Mannnnn, this game had me ready to drop dead. Alfred Morris & RG3.....are some grown ass men! Each rookie is consistently showing their worth on the field. It pains me to say we have to play them again. And twice every year in the NFC East. SMH SMH SMH

The Giants running game was held tame but both Bradshaw & Brown found the end zone one time a piece. The Defense did their best job trying to contain RG3, but hey, guys as talented as that you can only hope to limit them from making scoring plays. Because explosive players make explosive plays. But on to my main gripe. Eli Manning. I don't know what was going on inside this man's head but he was not really there for parts of the game. Plenty of his throws inaccurate and overthrown. But he does what America has begun to expect him to do late. Deliver. Before his 77 yard bomb to Cruz Eli was having a 260 yard, 2-INT outing that surely would've been the talk of New York had RG3's heroics come through in the end.

Great game, Great outcome, Keep it pushing GMEN.

Next Game: @ Dallas -___-

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Giants 26 - 49ers 3 (4-2)

In what was expected to be a very physical slugfest from the two NFC title match contenders from the previous year turned into a beatdown Sunday. Man I had no clue this was coming and it is a good sign looking forward to this hellacious schedule.

The offense did not put up high powered numbers, but it was balanced and effective. Eli completed just 15 for 193 and 1 TD and Bradshaw racked up an impressive 116 yards on the ground. Just a few issues getting the ball into the box in the red zone again. That WILL come back to get us in the future against teams that are capable of making a comeback as trading field goals for TD's is a recipe for disaster.

The major story here was not how impressive or dominating the 49ers D was....but more about the Giants Defense. Forcing 3 INT's (2 by Rolle) and having A. Smith on the run for a good portion of the game is a great sign moving forward. 6 sacks and 3 picks....I'll take that, with a W of course, any day.

The O-Line is doing work making room for Bradshaw. Which in turns means Eli doesn't have to throw 40-50 times a game. Nicks should slowly be working his way back to full health. While the back-ups have continued to show promise its always good to have your starters on the field down the stretch. And another week, I'm seeing D. Wilson gain more confidence running the ball. Guy has some legs on him. If him & Andre Brown can keep their legs fresh, we can begin to run the ball late in the game as defenders legs get weak. The 3 RB system has worked before...how do you think Bradshaw got noticed. (2007 - B. Jacobs, D. Ware & A. Bradshaw).

Next Game: VS The Redskins

I'm expecting a high scoring affair here. RG3 is looking VERY promising for the skins. However, their receiving options are limited and I feel like it will come down to proper containment (side eyes Osi). The mistakes made against Vick in the game against Philly should have been addressed and corrected for this game. But we will see how this goes......

GO GIANTS!!!!

Week 7 MEAC Picks

Since this is a new blog, I'm just gonna jump right into it. Last week was.....probably the screwiest weekend in MEAC play all year. NCCU beats SCSU.......badly. FAMU goes up to DC to bring home an L against the Bison. MSU & NCCU are both 2-0 in conference play. Its a strange year indeed. The games this week will be a precursor to what should be a great week next weekend. {NSU/BCU, SCSU/FAMU}

Sooooo here goes......

Norfolk State @ Hampton: {Battle of the Bay}

In what seems to be a game merely for pride as both seasons are pretty much over (well definitely over for Hampton due to postseason ineligibility) this one could be interesting as Hampton and NSU can move the ball through the air. NSU, in my opinion is still a good team that had a couple of bad games. Coming back from 30 down against Howard only to lose on a blocked XP. Having what probably would be the game winning touchdown called back on a "celebration" penalty which negates a TD. Two small instances which have had a major impact on the spartans' season.

My Pick: NSU

NCCU @ Morgan State

With both teams undefeated in conference play so far, many see this as a "Game of the week". NCCU coming off a 40-10 beating of SCSU in the Circle City Classic, looks to build some momentum and prove that last week was no fluke. MSU, fresh off a beatdown of its own, 45-6 trampling SSU, looks to continue to quiet the skeptics and continue towards the chance to hold a MEAC crown.

My Pick: Morgan State

South Carolina State @ Delaware State:
The winner of this game will be the one who takes the battle in the air. Del State's pass offense vs SCSU's pass defense. I personally think SCSU holds firm and stops the skid.

My Pick: SCSU

Howard @ NC A&T

Howard is on a collision course to try and be co-champions with BCU by years end (the two do not play each other this year). In order to do that they must survive the trap game at Aggie Stadium this Saturday. I personally am taking this one on faith that A&T's staff will have their team ready to rock something similar to when big ol BCU came to town last year.

My Pick: A&T

Savannah State @ FAMU

.....Dear FAMU,

Don't mess this up....or....Joe Taylor is gone.......by Monday.

My Pick: FAMU

Bye Week: BCU

Giants 41 - Browns 27 (3-2)

Something about these slow start, early turnover games bother me. As the season progresses we're gonna have to be the team that jumps out to an early 14 point lead in the first quarter. As a team they responded well after going down 14-0. Eli continues to impress early in the season. Building a rapport in these young receivers will bode well should anything serious happen late in the season. The O-line doesn't get enough credit for the work they put in blocking for Eli & Bradshaw. There's something real special about the team this year. I don't know what it is, but this team can be GREAT....if, and ONLY if, they can overcome the "Schedule from Hell" the NFC East is dealing with this year.

But uhhhhh......either our D can't tackle...or Trent Richardson is just that guy. Cuz....he made our defenders look like some practice squad rookies out there. Major props to the Browns for their rookie additions. Weeden & Richardson could be the start of something in Cleveland if they can build a team around them.

Ahmad...effin....Bradshaw....way to bust lose for 200 yards. When you can run like that, it makes Eli's job sooo much easier. I'm not expecting too many games like this for the rest of the year because we will see much....muuuuuuch better teams moving forward, BUT, as previously stated, it will take the pressure off of Eli when the running game can be established early.....

& The lil rookie Wilson....I'm hard on the guy since he decided to cry on national television but hopefully him getting in the box & finding a great role returning kicks can give him even more confidence in the coming weeks. With A. Brown suffering from a concussion, Wilson is definitely going to see some carries and we need him to be ready to carry the rock....

BIG....HUGE GAME next week.....

Big Weekend in MEAC Football

MEAC FOOTBALL SATURDAY PREVIEW

First place on the line as all three co-holders are in action this weekend

By ALVIN HOLLINS JR.

OCTOBER 4 –The first weekend of October will be the first MEAC Showcase Saturday,as the three league co-leaders will be in action vying to keep their toehold on the catbird’s seat.

This first full weekend of conference games also features contests between contenders looking to move closer to the top, and some teams trying to stay alive.

Saturday’s Games at a Glance
*Florida A&M (2-3, 2-0)`at Howard (3-1, 2-0)

@ The game of the week between two of the three first place teams, this D.C. Showdown truly has playoff implications, as well as a potential paradigm shift for the league. FAMU represents the old guard whose grip on the MEAC is on the verge of being wrested away by a new breed of insurgents led by Howard…. The Bison own the #2 rushing attack and rank #4 in total defense, and come in averaging 30.8 points per game, while the road-weary Rattlers check into their fifth road game in six weeks #1 in passing offense and #2 in total offense, but ranking near the bottom in total defense at #9, while scoring at a 21.8 per game clip.

*North Carolina A&T (2-2, 0-1) at Bethune-Cookman (3-2, 2-0)

@ The Irresistable Force (B-CU Offense) against the Immovable Object (A&T Defense) might be one way to handicap this game, as the Wildcats will send their top-ranked offense and run attack against A&T’s league-leading defense. The Aggies aim to get back on track in its’ Operation MEAC Monkey Wrench after a narrow 21-18 home loss to Morgan State last week…. Ineligible for the 2012 title, the Aggies can still affect the title chase with a takedown the first place Wildcats for a second straight year, especially with five home games against conference contenders looming the next five weeks.

*Morgan State (2-2, 1-0) at Savannah State (0-4, 0-2)
@ The Bears’ Escape From Greensboro last Thursday night kept them in the hunt for the league title, and they will be heavy favorites to remain in the upper division against the slumping Tigers. Savannah State comes into the game dead last in offense and defense, while Morgan ranks 10th in total defense, while ranking 8th in total offense. Look for a possible shootout to ensue between these two based on their defensive numbers to date.

*South Carolina State (2-3, 1-1) vs. North Carolina Central (2-2, 1-0)

@ Another old school-new school face off features perennial contender South Carolina State in a fight to remain in title contention against upstart North Carolina Central in the
Circle City Classic…SCSU is coming off a shutout of defending champ Norfolk State in an early elimination game last week, while NCCU outslugged fellow MEAC sophomore Savannah State, 45-33 two weeks ago… The Eagles top the league in rushing defense, second in scoring, and third in passing and total defense, while the Bulldogs rank sixth in total defense, third in pass defense, and 10th in total offense.

*Delaware State (1-3, 0-1) at Norfolk State (2-3, 0-2)

@ This battle of squads in search of their first conference win features defending champ Norfolk State, whose title defense has already gone up in smoke, hosting an improved Delaware State squad which still has designs on remaining in title contention after a two-point near miss against Florida A&M two weeks ago, is shaping up as a bitter battle …. Both squads rank in the lower half of the league in scoring offense (NSU 8th; DSU 9th), while standing near the top in scoring defense (DSU 2nd; NSU 3rd)… Norfolk State is also second overall in total defense.

BYE:Hampton University (0-4, 0-2).

Eagles 19 --- Giants 17 (2-2)

Giants cannot catch a break. I don't even know how to start right now. Typical NFC East, down to the last possession game, right? Yerp....it sure was. I could post numbers, stats, turnovers, etc etc etc but it doesn't matter. Why? Because a string of calls that could have went either way honestly. The offensive pass interference that was called really was the difference maker in the game. As we all saw the kick was short, the 10 yards the Giants were moved back was CRITICAL.

.....but...like in all things in life....shit happens. In this circumstance, not much to say after that. With the brutal schedule ALL teams in the NFC East have this year, especially my NY Giants, have the wins where the game is handed to you on a silver platter, ya just gotta go out there and eat. Tonight we took a look at the plate, picked it up....and put the shit back.

ALSO: David Wilson, I was hard on this guy after him being a giant crybaby on national television but he has earned my "thumbs up" after his job returning kicks all night. He may never touch the ball as a RB again, but as long as he can give us decent-to-good field position like he did tonight....I'll let him live.

Next game: VS Cleveland Browns {....we better win dammit}

GO GIANTS!

Giants 36 -- Panthers 7 (2-1)

Two guys stick out to me the most in this game....one I called...the other, totally surprised me. Andre Brown was the person I saw stepping up in a major way. After Bradshaw went down in the win against the Bucs, Brown ran with some authority. I just knew if the O-Line could create some lanes, he'd handle the rest. And he did just that, like a grown ass man. Now this gentleman, Ruben Randle....who the hell gave this man permission to go smack in like he did?? At 6 foot 6, this guy played like a real top notch veteran, racking up more than 100 yard receiving in the first half. Way to step up when Nicks went down.

These are the games the Giants MUST win in order to make the playoffs. Because the schedule is NOT kind to my team once again this year. Few areas for mistakes, and we will hit a couple of good ass teams that just will have good days, but all will be fine I believe.

Next Game.....against them damn eagles.

My First NFL Game..... (9/20/12)

Never...and mean NEEEEEEVERRRRRR would I ever picture my first NFL game being in some club level seats. And I never would've thought that I'd be going to a game this early in life. But mannnnnnn I am so glad I was able to have the opportunity to come to the Giants/Panthers game yesterday. Like...blessing is an understatement........true loss for words at the experience. From the time I got out the car (major shoutout to Kierra for bringin me to Charlotte from da boro) to when I was boarding the train back to school, I....was.....JACKED UP!!! Big ups to Alston for the hook up with the ticket & hospitality.

I'm saving the actual "Game Review" for later because I feel like it deserves its own post. But here are some of my memories from this glorious W in life & for the W the Giants earned out there.

Giants 41 --- Bucs 34 (1-1)

Welllll damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.....this game me ready to hit the damn panic button....EARLY!......Eli showed he could move the ball against the Bucs D. HOWEVER, everytime he'd make something happen.....he'd make it disappear. Three 1st Half interceptions is really hard to overcome......luckily Eli and the rest of the team are some troopers. Also luckily the bucs struggled moving the ball all game, which gave us a chance.

BIG....BIIIIIIG BIG BIG praise goes to A. Brown....the RB who filled in for Bradshaw when he suffered his neck injury. I now feel ok with our running game moving on in the future. David Wilson needs to get with the program or I seriously think he's getting cut!!!!

Also...Cruz, Nicks, & Bennett came through making big catches to help in this game. Bennett needs to work on his hands a lil more because he will be utilized more than he was in Dallas.

AND YES...I WILL be at the Panthers game on Thursday....front & fuckin center!!!!!!

LEGGO GIANTS!!!

Football is indeed....back!

All bullshit aside this was a hell of a weekend for some football America. From major BCS college ball, to good ol HBCU ball, to the NFL....there is nothing better for me to say than...Football is back.

Cowboys 24 -- Giants 17 (0-1)

As usual...I try not to put the first game of the year into great consideration. But when that game is against the LAST team in the world you wanna lose to, what more can ya do but hope, pray, beg, plead for that W. Unfortunately for the GMEN tonight.....that didn't happen. I saw alot of things I liked, but even more things i didn't like, and some things I just had to understand.

What I liked:

Eli. The kid has grown the fuck up right before my eyes. I dont really hold my breath like I used to when the ball leaves his hand.

DEs. The ends still have their stuff. Pierre-Paul, Osi & the gang are right on it. Getting penetration could cause issues being in a division full of mobile quarterbacks.

What I didn't like:

DBs: The ability to stay healthy is going to kill us in the long run if our top DBs can't stay on the field. Coe did well stepping in...but he & his replacement #30 got ROASTED on 3rd downs. The 1st & 30 was just......smh. Also Corey Webster.....got caught with his eyes in the backfield too many times.

DTs: If our starting DTs dont get well soon the teams with a better Run Offense are gonna plow through us.

Run Offense: O my lawd that drive after Boley's INT was god awful. Without a power back, our goal line offense is doomed. Bradshaw & Wilson aren't about that life....And those stretch runs just won't cut it inside of 5 yards. We must find a power back, ASAP.

Cruz: Mr. Cruz, Mr. Cruz.....Mr.....Cruz.........CATCH THE DAMN BALL......that is all.....

All in all no one quite expected that slot WR Ogletree to light us up like that.......but hey...i call it even...no one expected Cruz to take a dump on DBs last year either. Until the 16th I'll be in a crummy mood....do proceed with caution..... GO GIANTS!!!!

Welcome

I've decided to move all my sports blogging, NFL, HBCU sports etc over to its own particular blog...Why??? Because sports is just that damn important to my life. Here I'll try to keep it mainly to just the sports and the stats behind it......

Over the days you'll see me start to redesign the site to my liking. Bare with me folks.....

O yea... GO GIANTS!!! & AGGIE PRIDE!
